1. Don’t trust the frat boys
Ha. ha. had to put this first. I will say, I’ve met some really lovely frat boys this year but I’ve also met so many disrespectful ones too. They will tell you anything they can when you’re drunk to get you to go home with them. Don’t do it. Always leave with your girlfriends and never let a random guy get you a drink. ALSO, as I’m typing this with my best friends right next to me and we are reminiscing all of the frat party’s lol…. They wanted me to tell y’all not to take red shots and definitely not shots that smell like cough syrup. (yes, that happens) They say not to drink the punch either, and although I always did and was fine, definitely be cautious. (Make sure the guys are drinking it too) Honestly, my best advice is just to be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your girl friends and their drinks too. It’s college, we all drink, whether you’re of age or under. Just be smart!!
2. You have the option of who you want to see and keep in your life
IDK about y’all, but in high school you are forced to see everyone, everyday. In college, if someone is a toxic person in your life, you can drop them and never have to see them again. It’s so nice to have full control over who you want in your life and who you don’t. You have the total power to do what’s best for you, and there’s no better feeling than that.
3. You gain weight
Let me tell y’all….. first semester, I lost so much weight. If I’m REALLY being honest here, I drank wayyyy too much and never ate so that’s probably why. Second semester I made huge changes to my going out habits and really buckled down on school and myself. In result to that, I gained 10 pounds. (insert annoyed emoji) Like seriously, I get my life on track and am being a good girl and all I get in return is 10 pounds!? So. not. fair. But, when you have $15 in your account that has to get you from Monday to Friday, you get McDonald’s every time you and your friends eat. You eat at 1 am, and you sleep as late as you can. Gaining weight is inevitable so be prepared ladies. Luckily, dorm life is one year, so I’ve accepted the weight and know I’ll have the whole summer to work it off as well as I’ll have a kitchen in my house next year to cook healthy meals.
4. Money goes FAST
I WISH I realized this. Your parents will (most likely) send you money every month and I feel like I got a pretty decent amount from mine. I get to college, and between alcohol runs (it happens. it’s college. you did it or will do it too), food, shopping for themed parties, medicine (because you’re sick weekly), and sorority t-shirts, I was flying through my money in two weeks. I was constantly broke the last two weeks of every month. It’s a tough life. I can’t imagine life when I will have to pay for electricity and phone bills. I can barely pay for toothpaste.
5. Learn the buddy system- stick with your girls over guys
I would say my campus is pretty safe, but you can NEVER fully trust that. So many people get kidnapped across the country on campuses and you can never take it for granted. Even when you’re out on the weekends with your girls, STICK together. Nothing is scarier when you leave a house party to go to the next and your best friend isn’t there anymore and you can’t find her. That happened to us many times and it’s terrifying. Always stay together and keep an eye out for each other where ever you are.
6. Don’t take the 8am’s and DONT skip class
Last semester, the earliest I had class was 11am. It was glorious. This semester, I had a class I needed to take and it was only taught at 8am.
Kill me. I was like honestly, won’t be that bad. I’ll go to bed early, I’ll wake up and start my days early, get coffee, and be happy. NO. I WAS WRONG. It was dreadful every morning. I was exhausted, and wouldn’t even listen to my professor because I was so tired. I’m such a morning person but in college, you kind of have to be nocturnal. It’s hard because when I go home I’m up at 7 am and in bed by 9pm. In college, I’m up HOPEFULLY by 11:30 am and in bed HOPEFULLY by 2 am. It’s weird. If you can, don’t take the 8 am. Even if you think you can, you can’t. trust me.
Also, DON’T skip class. My two best friends told me to put this one in here. They unfortunately skipped class daily. (still love them!!) Which led to them failing some classes. They learned that they cannot sleep until two in the afternoon anymore and miss class, and wanted to pass the advice on to y’all 🙂 You can always sleep after class so just wake up and go!
7. A lot changes and you have to adjust
So.much.changes. Your life, your body, and your fears/dreams. You go from being sheltered at home with your mom cooking for you, telling you to go to bed, saying no to you going out late, making sure you take medicine when you’re sick… all the way to her not being there. It’s scary. You’re all by yourself. You have to care for yourself, learn to budget your money, run your own errands, etc. I was already an extremely independent person before college and did a lot of things myself, but I still found myself lost without my mom being two seconds from me. Growing up is scary y’all. Some days I’m like oh yeah I got this I’m ready and others I’m like ok when can I go home and have my mom take care of me the rest of my life. I can’t adult!?
8. It’s ok to miss home
It’s ok to miss home. I did. I thought about transferring three different times this past year. But; wait it out, give it time, put yourself out there, and reach out. I ended up realizing I was being crazy and that I loved it here. Don’t jump the gun every time you miss home. If you get that feeling, call up your girlfriends and stay busy. You’ll forget about it!
9. You appreciate the little things- like your own clean shower
Yes. Dorm life is rough. At home you have your own room, big bed, clean bathroom and shower. Then comes dorm life, and it’s like you get hit by a train. Twin bed, 2 feet from your roommate, gross showers, low water pressure, dirty floors. Like honestly, you are camping for a year. Ok, maybe I’m being a little dramatic BUT it’s still not fun. As I sit here, looking at my dorm on my last night that I’ll ever have to sleep in one, I can’t help but be thankful for the year of feeling like I’m at a sleep away camp. It definitely humbled me and made me thankful for my water pressure and clean sink at home. But, can’t say I’ll miss the dorm life.
10. It’s only 4 years of your life, enjoy it.
Along with the whole transfer subject, I definitely questioned if college was for me this year. Sometimes I wondered if going to a fashion school would be better, or not even going to school at all. I’m definitely an entrepreneur and a go-getter so to me, I know I can accomplish what I want without having to sit in class for 4 hours each day. But, other than the fact my parents want me to have a degree, it’s four years of your life and of a college experience. Four years of late nights, frat parties, walking to early classes, etc. of your whole.entire.life. I realized that the big city life is waiting for me, and that I need to enjoy a college town and college experience while I can. Fortunately, I will be graduating a year early and will only be in college for 3 years. So, it’s three years of my life and that’s not bad. I don’t want to look back at these years and regret not being young. Enjoy your freshman year, it’s quite the ride. 🙂
Just want to thank my family for supporting me, even when I had bad grades 🙂 and cried about how I wanted to come home. And for the first time in my whole life that I’ve thanked someone before my family, I want to thank my friends most of all. Y’all gave me the best year of my life, and were there for me through so many ups and downs. Y’all became my other true family and I’m so thankful for best friends like y’all. Can’t wait to be back in August!!

There is a month and a half left of school…. which means a month and a half left of the dorm life. I’m SO over it….. but trying to soak up the last little bit of my time in this small space, since I’ll NEVER have to do it ever again in my life. #praisethelord
I brought in a ton of different affordable decorations but a big thing for me, is I really enjoy decorating with my jewelry. I love getting acrylic jewelry holders and fun little bowls to decorate with and store jewelry. It’s an easy way to personalize your space with jewelry pieces that represent you.
Another thing I absolutely adore is adding diffusers to my space. Especially since I can’t burn candles in my dorm room, diffusers are my go-to! This one is from Antica Farmacista and it is heavenly. If you don’t want to buy online, they are sold at Neiman Marcus. I also have the body butter in the Bergamot and Oceania scent. Their products are SO luxurious.
My favorite thing about my room is how girly and personalized it is. I love coming home after a long day to it, which is seriously SO important when living in the dorms. Side note, the two sunglasses that are shown are my current faves. The green Ray Bans are from Shop Ditto…. You can get endless eyewear monthly and get your first month for free with code “AUDREYMADSTOWE” and the pair on the right are super funky and are from Riff Raff.

Hi Friends! This past week, life has been a little crazy. I know people are super interested about Spring Break photos, and what I wore and since I haven’t rounded up some Instagram posts in awhile, I thought today would be perfect for the occasion!
Sooooo…. I talked about it before, but I did change my hair up! I’m so in love with it, and really feel like it brightens my complexion up a ton. I got balayage, but made sure to really make the ends bleach blonde. It turned out 100% better than I could imagine and I’m so pleased with it.
Now, let’s talk SB. I went to Gulf Shores with 8 other girl friends in my sorority and let me tell y’all; As a girl who likes her space, alone time, cleanliness, sleep, and doesn’t really like to party that much (at least this semester ;)) ….. I had the TIME of my life. The funny thing is, we got ZERO sleep, were all crammed into a condo; sharing one bathroom, our place was trashed, and we spent every second together going out and partying. ALL things I can’t stand, and I ended up loving it and taking in every second. Usually in those circumstances, I get really antsy and throw a fit about how I just need a nice shower and a good 10 hours of sleep #firstworldproblems but going into this spring break I mentally prepared myself to just be 19 for four days and soak it all in. So, that’s what I did and It was a trip of my life and one that I will never forget. <3

Antica Farmacista sent me some LOVELY scents to try out. I’m in love with the body butter, and I put the lemon diffuser in my dorm room, and every time I walk in now it puts me in such a good mood! It’s the small things in life.
eeeek!! I went to my first St. Patty’s block party experience on Lower Greenville in Dallas. It was so much fun! It was quite crazy and reminded me of Tech’s tailgates in the fall x10 lol.
Last but not least…. yesterday was #nationalfragranceday and these are my TOP favorite fragrances right now. Sunglasses are from Shop Riffraff.

Spring break is RIGHT around the corner. My siblings and parents go on Spring Break next week, and mine is the week after! Just have to power through one more full school week and then ocean, here I come!
In the mean time, I wanted to round up my favorite trends and spring break finds for y’all to do some last minute shopping! Especially because….. ShopBop has their huge spring sale right now. SO many designer goods that you can get for less, and this is just all around an amazing sale.

The one thing I’ve learned to do for myself, each month and year is to set goals. Not the goals of “wow their relationship is #goals,” “her hair is #goals…” etc. you get the point. Sometimes in life we get so caught up in wanting what other people have and wanting to look or be like someone else (guilty!) that we lose sight of ourselves. My job revolves around the media. I spend a good half of my day on Instagram, Facebook, Google, Pinterest, etc. I have an online blog, and I have a side job working for and helping out with their social media. So… I am constantly seeing what other influencers are doing, buying, and saying. It’s really hard not to get caught up in that, and not compare myself to that. I find that a ton of girls throughout middle school and high school are so insecure. Especially the younger girls because they grew up with a phone and social media as soon as 2nd grade. (I never got a phone until 6th grade… and I see babies have them now, what!?) So girls get to grow up seeing “perfection” on Instagram, and other social platforms. It’s so easy to make yourself look “perfect” on social media. But don’t let others lives, who may look better (even though they aren’t) discourage you on making you a better you, for the benefit of yourself.
OK…. sorry I get side tracked. Now, onto this post.
Setting monthly goals is hard for some people. Some people don’t have the motivation, confidence, or drive to stick to a goal and follow through. But, it’s good to start now.
Create Your Goals
Creating goals, shouldn’t be too hard. Everyone can always improve themselves. I have an ongoing list of things I strive for, and things I want to improve. Think about what you can improve on, what you don’t like about yourself, any bad habits you want to fix, etc. But, when you are jotting them down, DO NOT think about how you could be like someone else, don’t think about your favorite Instagram blogger who you want to be just like. Be yourself, and improve that person. Nobody likes a girl who is 1. a follower and 2. just like someone else.
Stick to Them
Here’s where it gets tricky…. I’m going to share my top 3 tips on what works for me.
1. Jot them down. everywhere. In your planner, school notebook, on your phones notes, in your phones calendar… put. them. everywhere. you. can! You need to be reminded of them everyday, so it sticks in your head.
2. Find a friend, who has goals for themselves too, and make a pact to encourage and help one another to accomplish them. I’m independent, but sometimes it’s nice to have a friend along. Maybe one of your friends wants to improve on a few things in their life too, get together and promise to remind, and motivate each other to really accomplish them. If one of them is to workout, have a friend who has the same goal, and workout together. It’s really easy, if you just put the effort in to begin with.
3. Reward and discipline yourself when needed. LOL, this may sound weird, but it works. Let’s say my goal for a month is to workout 4 times a week. If I skip a day, I won’t let myself go out with friends on a Saturday night and instead I’ll get my butt to the gym… it’s really disappointing but it makes my mind and body know that skipping out or taking an easy way out on one of my goals results in losing a social and fun night. I hate missing out, so that right there would have me NEVER missing a day or goal. Take away whatever it is you may give yourself that month; a social event, new shoes, a shopping spree, etc. If you want something bad enough, you won’t lose sight of your goals. But, also reward yourself. If you’ve completed a goal like; getting organized, or getting up early, etc. Reward yourself! Go buy yourself that new handbag, or treat yourself to a nice dinner with friends. It’s important to have self motivation, and know that not everything is just handed to you, even small goals.
Goals are hard to make, when you doubt yourself. It takes a small amount of confidence and encouragement to make a list, and complete the things you want to improve on. I most definitely recommend trying to create a goal list for yourself, and seeing where it takes you… you never know until you try! Goodluck! (insert kiss emoji)
Happy 2016! Can you believe it’s another year? Another year to make new memories, accomplish new goals, and another year to be thankful for everything you have.
Like I said in this post here, 2015 was full of amazing things, but I really want 2016 to be the best year yet. I have SO many goals I want to accomplish for 2016… so here we go:
1. Get back into a steady workout routine: I know I know… everyone ALWAYS says this during the beginning of the year and it lasts for maybe a month and then we fall back into our lazy habits. But, I’m so serious about this! I stuck to a great routine in high school, but when I went off to college I lost all of my focus. Sleeping until 2 pm, and midnight McDonald’s runs sounded WAY better than taking an hour to go workout. But I love being in shape, I love to wear those tight crop tops and dresses to the bars and parties, but that doesn’t look so great when you’ve gained 10 pounds.
2. Find a job in Lubbock: I’m gonna be real honest. I’ve looked into transferring schools. MULTIPLE times. I love Tech, and my sorority, and friends…. but Lubbock is a crap place. I’m such a city girl and I’m still wondering how I ended up in Lubbock, of all places, instead of New York City or Los Angeles. Even being in Dallas, I’m much happier. I cannot function if I don’t have sky scrapers, endless top rated restaurants, and a fast paced life style. I go crazy in Lubbock because there is nothing to do, and surprise surprise…. I actually get really sick of the party scene fast. I feel like getting a job will take up a lot of my time and would really help me love Lubbock more and appreciate the slow pace of life. (just for a couple years though, then NYC here I come)
3. Find a Church/ Bible Study in LBK: This has a lot to do with what I mentioned above, but also because I need God back in my life, in other ways. I know I have God in my life, I say my prayers, but with the place I’m at I REALLY need him. I’m hoping to find a church in Lubbock, since I have one back home in Dallas, and get re-connected. Especially since being in a sorority, I feel like my whole life is strictly greek life, and I hate that… there’s so much for to life than that, and I want to turn my focus on God again.
4. Complete my Blog Goals List: I have a separate new year resolutions list, just for my blog. AMS has become my full time little baby, and never have I ever put so much work into something, and wanted something so bad than this blog. I have high hopes for it in 2016.
5. Apply for Internships: If y’all could only see the huge list on my laptop I have for Internships I want to apply for. I’ve been adding to this list since my Junior year of high school…… that’s when you know you need to slow down. While high school friends were out partying and being teenagers, I was in my room searching for Internships to apply for when I turned 18. But, now, the time is finally here, and I want to start applying for them this semester.
6. Make a 3.5 GPA: ummmm, I’m embarrassed to say my GPA was actually terrible from first semester. Like I said, it was like my mom dropped me off for college and everything I knew, and had planned for myself went to waste. I was a wild child, and I am not happy about it. I put the priority of school VERY last. But, considering I want to graduate a year early, I need to get my ish together in 2016, and raise that GPA.
7. Budget My Money Better: Still going to talk about another thing I sucked at my first semester of college…. money. I was SUCH a saver, and did great with my money all throughout my life. When I came to college, it was like $300 was $2 to me. I would FLY through my allowance within a week. I’m still wondering what I even did with my money every week. The constant email of “your bank account fell below $25” was a weekly thing. 2016, this is the year I pay attention and budget myself.
8. Get settled: This is a topic I’m actually going to cover more deeply in a blog post later on this year. But I struggle deeply with the sense that I always need more. I will get obsessed with something or an idea, accomplish it, and then get bored of it after a few weeks and need more. It’s really hard to deal with, especially for family and friends. I have a lot of what my dad likes to call “knee jerk reactions” where I get my mind set on something, waste a ton of money and time doing it and then decide I don’t want it anymore. I want to work on myself and this issue during 2016, and I think a major factor that will help this is getting involved back in a church and turning to God for that.
9. Create a meal plan/ healthy diet: This is one that won’t take effect until summer/fall 2016. It’s impossible to eat healthy or make meal plans for myself when you live in a dorm. Ramen, and instant potatoes are my daily meal and I have to suck it up and deal with it. But come fall 2o16, when I move into a house with my best friends, healthy food and a healthy lifestyle will return!! In the meantime, send any meal plans you guys have or use to my email PLEASE. I want to start planning.
10. Stay Connected to Hometown/ Far away Friends: For those who don’t know this, I was born and raised in North Carolina, then moved to Arkansas for two years, and then Dallas for the past 4 years. I also have a father who works internationally and through that, I have met friends from all over the US. It’s extremely hard to stay in contact with so many people and stay up to date with them. I also was really bad at checking in on my high school best friends when we all went off to college. These relationships are extremely important to me, and I want to work on taking the time out of my day, once a week, to check in on these amazing people I’m so lucky to have in my life.
I have big hopes for you, 2016. Hoping you are filled with amazing people, travel, and just amazing things in general. Thank you again to all of my readers for supporting this blog.

2015, You’ve been great. You had a rough start, the first 6 months… But then you changed a lot in my life, (for the better) the last 6 months. This past year has been a challenging, yet, incredible year. I have never figured myself out, nor been my true self ever, than during 2015. Like every year, there are always hardships. The past 3 years have been continuous hardships for myself, but as I’ve prayed and kept my faith, God brought the best 6 months of my life thus far, in 2015.
January- June 2015

I was finishing up high school during these months…. If you read my blog from the start, you would know I did NOT like high school. Here’s a brief story about it. So, I didn’t really care for those first 6 months of this year, and they hurt a lot. It’s taken a lot of time for me to get past it all, and honestly, all of the memories have become a blur so I wouldn’t even know what was good and bad.
But June 2015, my life took a 360 turn. Summer, in specific, was the best summer of my life. I traveled a lot, which was what really helped me put high school in the past and focus on what I really wanted in my life the next four years. I got to travel to multiple places in Europe, which was a life changing experience. That was the first major thing I wanted to do in my life, and I was able to check it off the list.
I was able to travel to Lake Muskoka, to visit my Canadian friends, and Montreal, Quebec to attend a 3 day music festival. I was so so so happy, and definitely got my life on the right track that I wanted.
Then, In August, I moved to college.
I rushed the BEST sorority, met the best friends ever, got my amazing big, and began life on my own. Although, of course I got homesick, and made stupid choices… I still had the best time of my life my first semester.
I have such high hopes for myself, and this blog during 2016. I want to thank all of you for keeping up with it, as I only started it last June. Thank you for supporting me, and sending such kindness my way. I’m ending 2015 with my best friends, and I cannot thank them, my family, and God enough for bringing me such amazing things during 2015.
